Saturday May 28 at 9am, will see a new Sydney digital music station officially launched by Sydney radio legend Ron E Sparks.
The new sound of Sydney’s Classic Hits.com has been in test mode over the last 6 months and is the brainchild of Sydney radio personality Lars Peterson, a top rating music announcer on Sydney radio for nearly two decades.
Ron E Sparks says he is so pumped about this digital station he is already boasting about consulting his Teledex and is promising to tap a highly appropriate name to cut the virtual ribbon.
Sydney’s Classic Hits is a tribute to a time when music was paramount to generations of radio listeners and DJ’s like Ron E Sparks and Lars Peterson owned the airwaves on stations like 2SM, 2Day-FM, Triple M and WSFM.
The net-based digital audio channel is aiming to offer brilliant sound quality and a huge playlist of music, plus the latest in news & sport to cater to a 40 + audience.
Peterson says, “Ron E is radio royalty and an absolute master craftsman behind the microphone…His music & artist knowledge and his observational wit is just gold, I am stoked he is kick starting the station!”
Listeners can access the Sydney’s Classic Hits.com digital stream on Google & Alexa smart speakers and directly from the website.
Free mobile apps will be available on the App Store & Google Play prior to May 28.
With so many digital stations on offer these days l am amazed they all can exist. The advertising dollar is getting thinner and thinner. Unfortunately not many new formats are falling out of the sky. I would like to see a format aimed at lifting someones spirit eg toe-tapping music or an album based format.
I’ve been listening to the test broadcast, I must say I am excited about this station. The sound, the feel, the familiarity of a format that fills so many gaps in the local radio landscape.....I love the big ears tag, I remember when Triple M launched their tag was...." because your ears have brains ", similar but different.
I thought it would sound like another 2CH ( Classic Hits) format, I was wrong again! This ticks all the boxes for me, and icing on the cake for the station is Mr R Sparks.
