ABC and SEN win WA awards – Nadia Mitsopoulos and Alicia Hanson the joint West Australian Journalists of the Year

ABC Radio Perth Mornings presenter Nadia Mitsopoulos and producer Alicia Hanson have been named the joint West Australian Journalists of the Year at the WA Media Awards. The award was for their and Seven News’ Geoff Parry‘s reporting on the collapse of Perth builder Nicheliving, with the judges saying:

“Their tenacious and courageous reporting held powerful figures to account, prompted government intervention and the suspension of the company’s licence, ultimately leading to legislative change.

Their investigations and compelling use of their respective mediums achieved tangible outcomes and exemplified journalism in the public interest.”

Sports Entertainment Network (SEN) too celebrated three of its team members recognised at the WA Footy Media Guild Awards.

Mark Duffield received the Dennis Cometti Award for Excellence Over a Career, a tribute to his decades of dedication, influence and understanding of football journalism and the sport in Western Australia.

Kris Klifunis was recognised with the Best Off-Air Performer Award, which celebrates the vital contributions of those working behind the scenes. Kris is SEN WA’s Breakfast Producer (working with Adam Simpson, Tim Gossage and Scott Cummings) ensuring SEN’s content remained the highest quality throughout the season, and an indispensable part of the team.

Adam Simpson was awarded the Tracey Lewis Emerging Media Talent Award, which recognises the best new talent in football media. This honour is reserved for individuals who have been working in mainstream football media for less than three years. Adam joined the SEN WA team this year and has brought fresh perspective to the show and coverage.

SEN CEO, Craig Hutchison, congratulated the winners, saying:

“We’re incredibly proud of Mark, Kris and Adam for their achievements at the WA Footy Media Guild Awards. These honours reflect not only their talent and commitment but also the strength of SEN’s presence in Western Australia. Our team continues to set the benchmark for quality football coverage, and these awards are a testament to that.”
