This Saturday, ABC Radio is supporting the ‘Band Together Farmers’ concert to raise money for rural mental health and suicide prevention with a number of Australian musicians coming together to perform at the Parkes Showground.
ABC Radio will broadcast a special NSW state-wide program that morning, live from 10am to midday, at Cooke Park in Parkes with Sydney presenter, Simon Marnie will be joined by the ABC Central West team, New England North West’s Anna Moulder and Illawarra’s Drive Presenter and music legend, Lindsay ‘The Doctor’ McDougall.
Local community representatives, farmers and mental health experts will all be part of the Cooke Park broadcast and special guests include the Hoodoo Gurus, Mark Seymour from Hunters & Collectors, 1927 and Darren Middleton from Powderfinger, who are all donating their time to perform.
ABC Head Regional & Rural Network, Andrew Fisher believes the concert is an excellent initiative to raise funds for mental health programs and resources: “The ABC plays an important role in sharing rural and regional stories, and the broadcast is a great way to let the wider Australian community know how they can help support people in drought-affected communities.
“As we demonstrated with the recent ABC and Red Cross drought appeal that raised more than $1.2 million, we have the platforms and the people on the ground to tell the stories. We can also play an important role in raising awareness of how others can support and donate.”
Simon Marnie, Anna Moulder and Lindsay McDougall will be emceeing at the Band Together Farmers concert.
