ABC Grandstand calls the shots at the 2014 Australian Open

From Monday January 13, ABC Grandstand will be courtside at the 2014 Australian Open to provide ball by ball coverage of the major matches of the day on ABC Grandstand on digital radio, online and mobile.
 
ABC Grandstand’s sports broadcasters Gerard Whateley, Drew Morphett, Dan, Lonergan, Matt Clinch, Adam White and Kellie Underwood make up the commentary team and will be providing live and commercial free broadcasts of games as well as courtside reporting around Melbourne Park for the duration of the tournament.
 
The commentary team will be joined by six of the best tennis experts:

  • Liz Smylie – 4 time Gland Slam doubles champion and regular tennis commentator for the ABC
  • Paul McNamee – part of the winning Davis Cup teams of 1983 and 1986 and former CEO of the Australian Open (1999-2006)
  • Mark Kratzmann – a formidable left-hander, Mark was ranked as high as No. 5 for doubles in 1990 and a career ranking high of 50 for singles in the same year
  • Barbara Schett Eagle – Austrian tennis champion, ranked No. 7 women’s single player in 1999 and winner of 3 WTA titles 
  • Mark Woodforde –  played in one of the greatest doubles combinations in history.  As one of The Woodies, Mark has won 11 Grand Slam doubles titles and five straight Wimbledon trophies
  • Judy Dalton – President of the Federation Cup Foundation and winner of numerous doubles finals at the  Australian Open and one each at Wimbledon, US Open and two finals at the French Open

Also, for Melbourne audiences, 774 ABC Melbourne will be broadcasting live at the Australian Open from the ABC Radio Big Ted Arena in Garden Square.  From 3pm each day, presenter Lindy Burns will present a special summer Drive Program.
