ABC pop-up radio residency in Geelong rescheduled for March 2022

In response to the uncertainty presented by current COVID-19 restrictions, the ABC’s planned pop-up Radio-in-Residency in Geelong has been rescheduled to March 2022.

ABC Radio Melbourne and ABC NEWS will continue to share all the important local stories from Victoria’s largest regional city, including coverage from the existing ABC News Geelong bureau.

Throughout March 2022, audiences will be able to drop by and see ABC Radio Melbourne presenters including Virginia Trioli, Sammy J, Jacinta Parsons and Raf Epstein, who will broadcast live from a pop-up studio in the heart of the city at Deakin University’s Waterfront campus.

ABC Radio Melbourne Local Manager, Dina Rosendorff, says, “We are looking forward to getting out into the community next year once it’s safe to do so, deepening our engagement with local Geelong audiences and sharing more diverse stories from the region.”

Greater Geelong Deputy Mayor Trent Sullivan says that the City of Greater Geelong is looking forward to the ABC residency which has been enabled by a partnership between the City, Deakin University and ABC Melbourne.

“While we’re disappointed that we won’t be hosting ABC Melbourne and ABC News as soon as we anticipated, we’re looking forward to the ABC Radio-in-Residency next March. It will be a fabulous opportunity to have the spotlight on Geelong and the Bellarine and to share this region’s stories across arts and culture, the environment, sport, events, design and innovation, tourism, hospitality and more.”

The ABC’s temporary pop-up radio headquarters will be located on the corner of Cunningham St and Western Beach Rd, overlooking Corio Bay.  The space has been provided by Deakin University’s School of Creative Arts.

The full program of community events and outside broadcasts will be released in early 2022.
