ABC Radio podcast figures: 6.2 million listeners last month

With the recent release of streaming figures for SCA and iHeartRadio, it is interesting to compare those numbers with what is happening at ABC Radio.
 
While not publicly released, the ABC’s internal figures show the importance of podcasts to the national broadcaster.
 
While ABC podcasts and the commercial network figures are not directly comparable, the ABC stacks up very strongly in the online listening space.
 
There were 6.2 million podcast downloads for the month of April, across all the ABC’s networks.
 
Radio National programs were the most listened to (2.6 million), followed by Local Radio programs (1.3 million).
 

 
In the four months, year to date (Jan-April 2014), there were 23.2 million podcasts downloaded by ABC listeners.
 
Local Radio’s Conversations program was the top download, followed by RN Breakfast, AM and  PM. The top 20 shows are listed below, as measured by WebTrends.
 

Radio Australia’s top 5 programs are Khmer Daily, followed by the Vietnamese program, English for Australia, the Chinese program and English for Tourism, revealing the influence of RA’s ‘soft diplomacy’ in the Asian region.
 
Radio National’s top 5 programs are Breakfast, followed by Late Night Live, Big Ideas, Life Matters and the Science Show.
 
Triple J’s top podcast show is Hack and Classic FM’s top show is Midday.
