ABC RN launches Citizen Jury – bringing the community together to tackle local issues

ABC Radio National have launched a new initiative called Citizen Jury where Australians from all walks of life come together for a forum to tackle the big issues that directly affect their community.

The inaugural Citizen Jury will be held in Dubbo NSW next week, in collaboration with Dubbo Regional Council and hosted by Natasha Mitchell of ABC Radio National’s Big Ideas program. A diverse cross-section of the local community and other regional stakeholders will come together to address a critical issue, in this instance the implementation of renewable energy infrastructure.

Over the last couple of weeks this Citizen Jury have met to explore the opportunities and concerns surrounding renewables in regional NSW. They have been working to find practical, locally driven solutions that reflect the values and needs of the Western Plains community.

The process culminates in a live public event which is being held on Wednesday, 25 June, from 4-6pm, on stage at the Western Plains Culture Centre in Dubbo. The Citizen Jury will present their findings and recommendations before council and also recorded for broadcast on ABC Radio National’s Big Ideas.

Members of the public are warmly invited to attend.  There are very limited tickets remaining but to secure your free seat, visit the Radio National events page here.
