Ads pulled as Kyle Sandilands defends smoking

The Cancer Institute NSW has immediately suspended all advertising on 2Day FM and will review any forward awareness strategies with the station as a result of comments made by Kyle Sandilands on his 2DAY fm breakfast show.

The comments came as part of an on air discussion on the 20th of August and transcripts of show were sent to Media Watch who covered the story.

Look not everyone that smokes get these lung cancer and all these things.

We know that it slightly increases your risks ’cause everyone’s flying the flag. Always blaming the smokers but everyone that’s on the grog out there, I’m pretty sure, well, we’ll check it, I’m pretty sure that the alcohol is the bigger killer.

Sandilands then involved newsreader Geoff Field in the conversation and attempted to imply that smoking relelated death statistics were untrue.

The Cancer Council reacted swiftly by pulling all advertising from the station as they are upset that Sandilands is using his influence on young people to irresponsibly play down the dangers of smoking
