AFTRS short courses open

AFTRS has scheduled AFTRS Open short courses in Writing Radio Creative starting in July and Podcasting 101 starting in August.

Here is a list of short courses on offer:
 

Extend your writing skills for radio. This 16 week, fully online course is designed for those interested in writing radio creative who are working in or wanting to pursue work in the commercial and community broadcasting sectors. It will develop and extend your writing, creative ability and collaboration skills to an industry standard. It provides a thorough understanding of the role of the Radio Creative Writer and will help you to apply writing and creative skills within a workplace context. 15 July – 17 Nov (16 weeks, 7.5 hours a week) 

 

Want to learn how to create your own podcasts? Get practical advice and skills training from experts, and learn how to take your podcast from an idea to a completed, ready-to-upload file, in this six week online course. Tutor Madeline Joannou loves all things audio and has a particular passion for radio. She has been working as an Audio Producer for the last 10 years in commercial radio (2Day FM, Vega 95.3, Nova 96.9, Mix 1065 and 101.7 WSFM among others). Madeline currently works at the ABC as part of the ABC MADE team.

SYDNEY COURSES

 

Develop your own unique, on-air personality and learn skills to develop your career in the media in this 5-day intensive with the help of presenter Marie Patane.  You’ll learn about: On camera presenting skills including writing your own scripts, conducting interviews on camera, voice over skills for TV and radio plus radio announcing skills. 20 – 24 June, AFTRS Sydney.

 

In this five day intensive you’ll learn essential radio skills from experienced radio industry professionals and gain the confidence to begin your career in radio. From roles and responsibilities and announcing and presentation, to editing and studio skills we’ve got it all covered. 27 June – 1 July, AFTRS

 

Just having a great voice is not enough – you need the skills to be able to use it properly. Industry expert Amy Longhurst (Voice of Foxtel Kids Channel, Nick Jnr, Nickelodeon, Dettol, Milo, Wrigley’s, Napisan, Mitsibishi, Energizer) will give you the techniques to get the best out of your voice to get a start in the voice over industry.
6-7 Aug, AFTRS 

 

This 2-day course over two consecutive weekends, is suitable if you have completed the AFTRS Open Voice Over course or have some experience with professional voice over work and wish to further polish your skills. The course is for a small group (maximum of 8) and will allow for more on mic time to work on strengths and weaknesses. It also provides opportunity to identify an area of specialization during practical sessions. At the end of the course you will receive a number of work parts that could form the basis of a demo tape.
