AFTRS Xfm broadcasts begin this week

This year’s band of AFTRS commercial radio students are about to embark on their major practical exercise, which will go to air this Saturday.

Named X fm this year, the target audience is 12 – 21 year olds in Western Sydney. The broadcast will be heard on the internet and next week in western Sydney on FM 100.7 thanks to the cooperation of community station WOW FM.

The two week broadcast is the last major simulation of the course, which teaches them a wide range of skills, including announcing, producing, technical, news, copywriting, programming, music directing, sales and more.

This year new innovative elements of the broadcast will include podcasting and digital radio simulations.

Profiles of the students are on the site and program directors often use the simulation to talent spot potential employees.
