Alex Waislitz and Antony Catalano up their interest in Southern Cross Media Group

The recently merged Southern Cross Austereo and Seven West Media announced via the ASX on Monday that they will release results for the full year ending June 30, 2026 on Tuesday August 11.

The following day came a further announcement of a large change in significant holdings, with 19 Cashews Pty Ltd, run by billionaire Alex Waislitz and the former executive chairman of Australian Community Media, Antony Catalano, having acquired 4.9 million shares in the company over the last five months.

The pair, at the end of 2023, proposed a merger with SCA to attempt to thwart ARN’s then ambitions of acquiring them. Much has changed since then.

This takes them from 7.53% voting power to 8.56% and nearly 41 million shares.

Alex Waislitz has shown support for the former Seven network executive Bruce McWilliam to take a seat on the board of directors. Bruce too has been upping his stake, to 9.15%, with some assistance from Gina Rinehart.

Australian based activist investment firm Sandon Capitalexecuted a notice via an ASX announcement on June 12 saying that any new director appointed by the Board of Directors between now and the next general meeting should be booted as soon as that meeting ends. They had been especially unhappy at the merger.

That next meeting is likely to be the November AGM, where any new director would have to be elected in anyway, making the notice mostly moot, but it still sounds like certain parties are getting their ducks in a row ahead of the FY results on August 11.
