And from all the lands on earth we come…

SBS Radio launched the first of its eight 2022 Election Exchanges in Saigon Plaza Bankstown last weekend.

On the ground were producers from SBS Arabic, SBS Vietnamese, SBS Cantonese, SBS Urdu and SBS Bangla all interviewing both the Election Exchange’s guests, which included politicians and community leaders, and also members of the public who were interviewed on what issues matter to them.

Content from SBS’ Election Exchanges will air across SBS’s audio language programs over the coming weeks as they roll out across Hobart, Launceston, Dandenong, Broadmeadows, Wagga Wagga, Eastwood and Ballarat.

Among the politicians interviewed at Saturday’s event were local member Jason Clare, who represents the seat of Blaxland, and Deputy Mayor of Bankstown Bilal El-Hayek. Also in attendance were SBS Managing Director James Taylor and SBS Director of Audio and Language Content David Hua.

David Hua said the SBS Election Exchange is an important tool for empowering communities and encouraging engagement with the election.

“The SBS Election Exchange enables an independent and informed approach to policies and politicians at a local level. This is an important outlet, encouraging culturally and linguistically diverse communities to be a part of the national conversation at a local level, providing the opportunity to drive the agenda and discuss the issues that matter to them.”
