And the beat goes on – ATN’s Warren Purchase notches up 50 years

August 25 1975 was also a Monday. It was the day Bruce Springsteen released his breakthrough and now iconic album Born to Run. It also just happened to be the day that Warren Purchase, the voice that has guided us through the traffic for more than two decades, started his radio journey too.

An enthusiastic kid from Southern Sydney, Warren approached Roger Summerill for a start, landing a job as a office boy. Since then Warren has worked as an announcer, program director, music director, news editor, production manager, copy writer, voice over artist and in sales, although Warren didn’t think he was much chop at the latter.

Stations that Warren worked at include 2UW, 2BE, 2GN, 2CC, 2KA, 4CD, 2NM, 2LT, Kiss FM and he was part of the original team who set up 2DOUBLEO. He has watched studio technology go from vinyl records, analogue recording tape, reel to reel and cartridges through CD , DAT & Minidisc to the latest cloud based storage and diffusion software. From 1990 to 2000 he also set up and ran a radio announcing and presentation school.

22 years ago Vic Lorusso also gave Warren a start at ATN, where he has progressed to being senior radio traffic reporter, and where many of you will hear him covering the trials and tribulations of your travels to work and school every morning.

Warren said:

“My ATN role is the most enjoyable job I’ve ever had. Thanks for the opportunity Vic and thanks too Roger Summerill for having faith to give me a start not only once but twice all that time ago. Hoping my career performance has justified that faith. And the beat goes on!”

It does indeed. Congratulations Warren!
