Andrea Ho joins Judith Nielsen Institute

Andrea Ho has joined the Judith Neilson Institute’s executive team as Director, Education.

In August, Andrea was one of many to take a redundancy from the ABC in the latest round of cuts.

She will lead the Institute’s education program, which provides targeted, practical training aimed at broadening the knowledge and improving the skills of working journalists.

Andrea will build on the education projects already delivered by the Institute, including its two-week Asia Reporting Fellowship in Hong Kong in 2019, and its data training program in late 2020.

Andrea will also help lead the Institute’s signature education initiative next year, the co-hosting in Sydney of the Global Investigative Journalism Conference in November 2021. The largest regular gathering of investigative journalists in the world, the conference will expose journalists to state-of-the art reporting and investigative techniques from across the globe.

Andrea was previously Head of Planning ABC Regional & Local and has broad experience as a radio program director and content team manager.

She has both a strategic executive and hands-on management background in diversity and related issues in the media industry. As part of a Churchill Trust Fellowship in 2015 she published a paper on practical strategies for cultural diversity in the media industry.

More recently, Andrea has served as the Founding Co-Director of the Economic Media Centre, a start-up project of the Centre for Australian Progress and the Australian Council of Social Service.
