Anonymous hip-hop act wins triple j Unearthed’s DIY Supergroup competition

After receiving over 900 entries, triple j Unearthed have announced that anonymous hip-hop act ROYBOY have won the DIY Supergroup competition!

Their entry ‘switchUP’ transformed samples from Flume, Tame Impala, G Flip and Amy Shark, into an original song and triple j Unearthed Music Director Dave Ruby Howe says “As well as slick production and the outrageous personality coming through on the track, ROYBOY’s entry for this comp won us over by really nailing the mission statement of the DIY Supergroup.

“They’ve used elements from some of Australia’s biggest names but done it in a way that feels wholly their own and the end result is a destructive alley oop of a track.”

ROYBOY spoke to Sally & Erica on triple j Breakfast through a voice modulator to keep their identity hidden, saying that for now they want “all the focus to be on the music”.
