The team at Hot Tomato should look back at 2024 very fondly indeed. In GfK Survey 3 of the Gold Coast, the last for this year, they led in every day part, weekends and for all demographics except 65+. The live and local shows of Galey and Emily Jade on Breakfast and Moyra and Big Trev on Drive picked up a 3.8 and 2.2% audience share respectively. This year the station has increased its total audience share 10+ by 5.4% (16.4 to 21.8), breakfast by 7.5% (16.3 to 23.8) and drive by 4.8% (17.8 to 22.6).
92.5 Triple M Gold was second with an overall 14.3% audience and the 65+ demographic. 90.9 Sea FM was down 1.2 to 9.0 in third. ABC Gold Coast also saw losses, down 0.5 to 3.3, and down 2.6 to 4.2 for Nicole Dyer on Breakfast.
Cumulative listening remained steady with Sea FM and triple j which is normally competitive on the Gold Coast seeing losses, again indicative that youth is sourcing audio elsewhere. The ABC’s losses were largest, perhaps attributed to a drop off post Olympics where QLD and the Gold Coast are always well represented. In the 18-24 age demographic Hot Tomato was also up an impressive 14.3%, and 8% in 25-39.
At the 2024 Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRAs) Hot Tomato (main picture) won Best Station (Non-Metro), best Content Director (Non-Metro) for Brendan ‘Whippy’ Dangar, Best Sales Person (Non- Metro) for Leigh Irwin, Monique Cremona won Best Radio Show Producer (Non-Metro) and Matt McDonald was awarded The Glenn Daniel Award for Best News Presenter (Non-Metro). Flan, Ali & Spida; Sean Flanagan, Ali Plath, Spida Everitt, on Triple M Gold won Best On Air Team (Non- Metro) too.
Brendon “Whippy” Dangar said:
“We must be the luckiest people in the world! We live in the best city, get to play radios every day and people actually listen! So proud of our entire team, what a year it has been with a record amount of Radio Awards and more record-breaking survey results.”
A spectacular year for the Hot Tomato team on the Gold Coast reflected in the acknowledgement of talent, and by their listeners.
