ArtSound’s fundraiser gives the station hope for a brighter year ahead

ArtSound in Canberra have just concluded its fund-raiser, the station’s first Radiothon for three years.

With all of its team in isolation, the Radiothon had to become a virtual fundraiser, with all the programs and presentations being pre-recorded at presenters’ homes, in most cases a new experience.

The Winter Fund-Raiser had a hopeful target of over $10,000, and at the latest count the station had received over $18,000.

While this is lower than the $30,000 their radiothons have previously raised, vice-president of the organisation’s Board of Management, John Worcester, says, “Along with a number of grant applications becoming successful at the same time and a sponsorship drive that is starting to deliver, we approach our forthcoming AGM with more confidence – plus a recently-renewed broadcasting licence.

“Two of our volunteers led the way into the fundraising and both put in an enormous amount of work, time and effort: Chris Deacon and Peter Monaghan.  Many of our presenters came to participate and join our virtual team.  While we all recognise being in strange times, we’ve been able to demonstrate that the traditional community radio fund-raiser still works.”
