August revenue figures steady

Revenue for the commercial radio industry remained steady in August, recording a drop of 0.22%  to a total of $59.02 million across five metropolitan markets, according to figures released today by Commercial Radio Australia. Three cities were down, while two cities recorded growth this month.

The 2011 Metropolitan Commercial Radio Advertising Revenue figures, sourced by Deloitte, show advertising revenue for individual markets in August was mixed with growth recorded in Melbourne and Adelaide but falls recorded in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth.

In Melbourne, revenue for August 2011 compared to the same month in 2010, was up 3.71% to $18.4 million and in Adelaide revenue grew by 2.33% to $5.619 million.

In Sydney revenue was down 1.52% to $18.03 million; in Brisbane down 3.58% to $9.35 million and in Perth fell 3.65% to $7.6 million.

The Deloitte figures report total metropolitan radio revenue received for each calendar month and include all direct and all agency revenue.

Commercial Radio Australia’s Joan Warner says the market has softened a little, reflecting a flatter overall advertising market. “The market appears to be reflecting the economic uncertainty being felt at the moment in many sectors, a fall in retail sector spend and a general overall softer advertising market.“
