The co-host of the nationally syndicated new music show, Radar, Byron Cooke, has won the award for International Radio Personality of the Year, 2012, at the World Radio Summit held in Hollywood, California over the weekend. Other winners include SCA’s Guy Dobson and triple j’s Richard Kingsmill. triple j also took out awards for “online presence” and “most innovative station.”
Cooke has told radioinfo from LA: “To be in the final 5 of my category alongside names like Zane Lowe & Richard Kingsmill was already an honour….to win was unbelievable. Huge thanks to all who voted for me.” As well as his work on Radar, Cooke is the anchor for The Today Network’s drive show, Fifi & Jules.
He won for his “outstanding contributions to the international radio industry” which saw him beat out some of the world’s highest profile personalities including, Zane Lowe, Chris Moyles and Steve Lamacq of the BBC.
Byron Cooke said, “I was totally shocked to get the nomination and to see my name alongside four of music radio’s heavy hitters is nothing short of an honour. All I ever wanted to do in radio was have fun with my audience & the music without EVER disrespecting the artists who make it.”
