Australia well-represented on the shortlist for New York Festivals Awards

Some high-profile Australian podcasts feature strongly among the finalists for next month’s New York Festivals Radio Awards.

Due to take place on April 26, the awards honour global excellence in radio and podcasting across all platforms and genres.

All up, 18 Australian entries have been shortlisted for 2026.

The compelling podcast investigates the mysterious murder of Rachelle Childs, a 23-year-old woman from Bargo, south-west of Sydney, who disappeared after work in June 2001.

Last year, the podcast won Gold at New York’s prestigious Signal Awards.

The ABC’s Expanse: Nowhere Man is up for Best Narrative/Documentary Podcast and Best History Documentary.

Dementia Australia’s Hold The Moment Podcast featuring Jim Rogers and Hamish Macdonald (pictured above) is shortlisted for Best Health/Medical Podcast

Deadset Studios and The University of Sydney were recognised for The Solutionists With Mark Scott – which is up for Best Education Podcast

Impact Studios’ History Lab: Unsettling Portraits is up for Best Culture And Arts Podcast

Other Australian entries on the shorlist include Marc Fennell’s Corked, the Nine Network’s Alva Beach: Death At The Door and The Saints, 3AW’s The Pulse Of Melbourne podcast and SBS Australia’s Head Above Water, How Humans Talk and Fallout: Spies on Norfolk Island podcasts.

Across the ditch, New Zealand’s RNZ has five nominations, with the Christian Broadcasting Association also among the NZ finalists, along with eyesound for the Coast Kiwi 100 Countdown.

The full list of Australian and New Zealand finalists can be found here.

One winner from this year’s Australian Audio Awards will automatically be entered in next year’s New York Festival Radio Awards at no charge thanks to the association between radioinfo, the awards and NY Festival.
