He may have been voted off the island on Australian Survivor, but the lovable larrikin with the big heart, Barry Lea, has found himself a new home at Star 106.3.
Townsville can kick off their workday with Barry when he starts as Star 106.3’s Morning announcer, weekdays from 9am in October.
Barry, who entered Australian Survivor to be a role model to other Indigenous people was controversial in his decision to play the game strategy-free.
“I set out to play the game with honesty and integrity and have no regrets about the way I played the game,” he said.
“It’s great to be home and I’m looking forward to joining the team at Star 106.3,” he added.
Along with tales from his time on Australian Survivor, Barry has a colourful background of experiences to draw on having worked as a rodeo clown and an actor. He has also represented Australia for Rugby Union in the Wallabies and Queensland Reds.
