Australia’s newest FM radio station is set to make waves on the west coast.

917 The Wave launches in October and, according to its operators West Coast Radio, it will be an evolution of the network’s current AM station, 1116 6MM.

The station will broadcast from its studios in Mandurah, Western Australia, with the line-up and exact launch date yet to be announced.

Coinciding with the station launch, 917 The Wave will release an app, allowing listeners to stream in high quality anywhere in the world.

The station website will include downloadable podcasts as well as the latest in local news, sport and entertainment.

It will give listeners the opportunity to rate the music, and act as a local hub where people can discuss local issues and discover nearby events and businesses through an online directory.

Content Director John De Bellis says there is a buzz around the station in the lead up to the launch.

“As the date gets closer, the team is really excited. They have been working hard for many months to ensure we produce a great radio station that is 100 per cent local and relevant.”
