The Perth Tourist, a radio series of audio described walking tours, is making its return on the Noise Pilot podcast network.
Originally made for broadcast on Vision Australia Radio, The Perth Tourist offers a unique storytelling experience with its immersive soundscapes, tour guides and audio described commentary.
The podcast/radio series was recognised nationally, receiving the CBAA Award for Excellence in Creative Audio in 2018 for its original broadcast.
“Programs like this are important because they help make information and experiences accessible for people who are blind or have low vision,” Conrad Browne, Vision Australia’s Manager of Radio & Audio Services, said at the time.
Now, eight years later, the series is being re-released, with the show to be hosted on the podcast platform founded by Ethan Kavanagh which showcases content and creators in Western Australia.
“This is one of my proudest creations, and I’m so grateful to be at a stage in my life where I have the time and resources to return to it, and promote the incredible history, culture, and stories WA has to offer,” said Kavanagh.
“We are grateful to Ethan for his out-of-the-box idea, slick execution, and for his passion in wanting to continue this important series now,” said Gemma Sidney, Program Coordinator at Vision Australia Radio Perth.
The re-release will revisit the original three episodes recorded at the Fremantle Prison, Maritime Museum and SciTech, with plans to introduce new content after the launch of a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for further production.
Kavanagh’s dedication to accessibility and storytelling remains at the core of the project, ensuring blind and low vision listeners, and all tourism enthusiasts, can experience the city through richly textured and carefully narrated audio.
The Perth Tourist is now available wherever you get your podcasts. The Kickstarter campaign officially launches on August 11th.
