Bampton and Cannane chased to new timeslots with triple j changes

2004 will bring further changes at national ABC youth network Triple J.

Former drive co-host Mel Bampton will now host mornings, to make room for members of The Chaser team to present a satire skewed program between 2.00 – 5.30 pm.

Following the three and a half hours from Chasers Chris Taylor and Craig Reucassel, former morning host Steve Cannane will present a half hour current affairs program.

The changes signal the revamp promised last year by station bosses is now under way.

Moving current affairs content into a half hour block is reminiscent of the other ABC networks and an unusual move by Triple J, but may give the station the point of difference it has been looking for to attract a young thoughtful audience in both the city and the bush with the right mix of humour, music and serious comment.

Young listeners around the country are being reminded by the station to enrol to vote.

Triple J has been telling its listeners: “There is almost certainly going to be a Federal Election this year so now is the time to enrol to vote.

And triple j’s Rock Enrol is going to make it worth your while.

At every Big Day Out around the country, track down the Rock Enrol tent which will be next to the triple j tent. You can enrol to vote right there on the spot, and the first 400 people to enrol to vote at the Rock Enrol tent will each receive a free Rock Enrol t-shirt.”

And if voting in a Federal Election isn’t enough, listeners are also reminded of voting of another kind as the Hottest 100 poll draws to a close. Triple J’s Hottest 100 will be played on the Australia Day long weekend.

Songs on this week’s Tripel J hit list are:
