Boost for Penrith and Campbelltown radio

Some good news today for radio listeners in the Penrith and Campbelltown areas. And for the operators  of 2MAC and 2KA.

The ACMA has decided to make changes to Campbelltown’s 2MAC and Penrith’s ‘Cool Country 2KA’s technical specifications to improve reception and coverage for both stations.

2MAC will change its service to a mixed antenna polarisation which should result in improved reception by ‘fixed’ receivers, such as kitchen or bedside radios. In-car coverage should remain unchanged.

High-power, open narrowcaster (HPON) 2KA will be allowed to increase its operating power, change its AM frequency from 1476 kHz to 1386 kHz and modify its radiation pattern. These changes should see the service revert to its original planned coverage and improve night-time reception in the Penrith area without interfering with other nearby radio services.

Both proposed changes are designed to address licensee reception problems.

The changes are contained in the Variation to Licence Area Plan – Sydney Radio – No 1 of 2013.
These documents are available on the ACMA website .
