Brian Wilshire remembered at Hunter Valley memorial

Friends and family of the late Brian Wilshire gathered in the Hunter Valley yesterday to remember Brian’s life and career.

His 2GB family was represented my Jason Morrison and Michael McLaren.

Jason has allowed us to share his thoughts on the memorial:

Thank you to the family of the Late, radio great, Brian Wilshire for the invitation to his very private memorial.

This collection of Brian’s things were front and centre … a great reminder of the 2GB side of his life.

But that was only a bit of Brian.

He was absolutely loved by his daughter Pam and son Matty who spoke wonderfully of what a great father he’d been and husband to their mother Ruth.  Neighbours and lifelong friends were there and we all left with stories about the bloke that none of us knew – and a lot of laughs.

It was a real honour to be there.

I first listened to Brian when I was in primary school and he got me hooked on talk radio. It was always amazing to think I got to work with him and share the 2GB air with him.

Thanks for the memories and being my bridge to radio’s golden age.

2GB turns 100 this year. Brian dominated the nighttime for the station for 36 years.

No-one has held a fulltime daily shift on the great station for as long.

He is undoubtedly one of 2GB’s greats.
