We recently reported at radioinfo on Bundaberg Broadcasters’ staff celebrating being named Finalists in 3 categories at this year’s Australian Commercial Radio Awards.
BEST ON AIR TEAM: Bryce Ruthven and Tracey Sergiacomi – Hitz 939
BEST MUSIC SPECIAL: Bryce Ruthven and Tracey Sergiacomi, Hitz 939
BEST ACHIEVEMENT IN PRODUCTION: Brendan Egan with Troy McInnes
Bryce and Trace, from Hitz 939 Breakfast, are in the running for not only Best On- Air Team, but also for a music special they created to celebrate Guy Sebastian performing in Bundaberg.
It follows on from their recent success in the XTRA Research Bundaberg Survey #1 2016, where they became the Number One Radio Show in Bundaberg.
Bryce started off in radio in 2010 with Hot FM in Rockhampton. Since then he’s worked at 4RO, ZZZ FM Lismore, Sea FM Gold Coast, TR FM Gippsland now Hitz 939.
But he wasn’t always in radio.
“I worked with the NRL when I left high school in their grass signage team while playing semi-professional soccer in Sydney. At age 19, I tried my hand at acting and had a short guest role on Home and Away then did some work with MTV before moving to Queensland to pursue soccer which is when I fell into radio, starting off driving the Hot Thunder for the breakfast show in Rockhampton,” he says.
And while it’s Bryce’s first ACRA nomination, Tracey has walked the red carpet before.
“I was lucky enough to win an ACRA in 2014 in Melbourne for Best Station Promotion. Let’s hope Melbourne is lucky for us this year.”
Tracey started as a receptionist at Hitz in 2009.
“…in 2010 I started on the Hitz breaky show and currently I have the roles of Breakfast announcer and promotions manager,” she says.
So who was the first person they told about their nomination?
“If I’m going to be honest, Trace called me to give me the good news on the Sunday morning while I was attempting to sleep in after a ‘big night’ celebrating the end of our soccer season,” says Bryce.
“I completely forgot when the nominations were coming out so I was going to ignore the calls but she wouldn’t stop calling so I thought something must have happened.”
“Eventually he answered,” says Tracey
“… and I yelled into the phone woo hoo! We are going to Melbourne, which probably wasn’t the best idea to do that to someone who was suffering a hangover.”
Speaking of big nights are they planning on travelling south to Melbourne for the awards?
“Hell yeah we are,” says Bryce.
“My brother lives down there so it will be good to have a night out celebrating with him after the awards ceremony has wrapped up. Who am I looking forward to seeing there? The rest of the talent from Grant Broadcasters and putting a face to the voice, it will also be great to catch up with friends from other networks who are nominated and hopefully we will get the chance to grab a selfie with some of the big names in the industry like Kyle & Jackie O, Fitzy and Wippa and Hamish and Andy.”
“Yes and I can’t wait,” says Tracey.
“Bring on October 8th.”
