Tanya Wilks has celebrated 25 years at the Triple M Network on the top rating Newcastle Breakfast Show Tanya & Steve, alongside Steve Graham.
A born and bred Novocastrian, Tanya’s knowledge of her hometown and its people is only slightly overshadowed by her love for all things Newy and the Hunter.
On air since the age of 17, enjoying stints as both announcer and journalist, Tanya has now been topping the breakfast radio ratings for 25 years.
This unique position has allowed her audience – which Tanya considers more family than listeners – to grow up with her and witness, warts and all, a life lived publicly, for better or worse.
Tanya was recently awarded the Order of Australia medal for service to broadcast media and to the community.
Triple M Newcastle recognised the occasion with a special moment on the show, with a surprise ten-minute package including contributions from her first co-host, David Collins, as well as messages from Southern Cross Austereo CEO John Kelly, rugby icon Peter ‘Sterlo’ Sterling, her husband, former EPs and her son.
Celebrating the milestone, Tanya said “From KOFM to Triple M, I’m loving every minute of my time in radio – it’s unbelievable that it’s been 25 years! I’m privileged to get to talk to the wonderful people of Newy every day, hear their remarkable stories, and engage with the community we love.
