The argument that a vehicle's electric motor will interefere with AM MW reception has been addressed before. It's another excuse to ditch the AM band from the infotainment system.
It does not make sense.
First, when I listen to the AM band on my hybrid car there was no noticeable change in the level of interference of AM reception during tbe generation and recharging of the hybrid battery AND during the disharge of the hybrid battery when the car's drivetrain is operating exclusively or partially on the car's hybrid battery. By partially it is meant that the wheels are powered by the engine and electric motors.
Second software defined radio can implement filters. So DSP doesn't use physical diode detectors and filters as the analogue radios.
DAB is great in metropolitan areas where AM is simulcast on DAB.
Unfortunately DAB is not suitable for long distance reception in rural and unfortunately with DRM+ there is no willpower in Australia to implement it.
