It was the Englishman’s first day at GOLD104.3 Melbourne. 

The welcoming committee was in full swing to make the Christian O’Connell’s getting-to-know-you a warm and fuzzy experience.

But as the parenting books will tell you, every fun experience should be a learning opportunity too.

So management did not miss the opportunity to drum into their English recruit the rituals of the local religion – not football or (perish the thought) soccer but real footy – AFL.

So it was that O’Connell, along with his “sidekick” and producer Jack Post, in true AFL tradition, burst through an AFL-style banner to enter the GOLD104.3 studios together for the first time. 

They were cheered on by Acting Executive Producer Nick Daly and ARN staff upon arrival and were greeted with an informal morning tea (English Breakfast) to celebrate.

ARN’s National Content Director Duncan Campbell and GOLD104.3 Content Director Sue Carter gave the new Breakfast show an official welcome before Christian and Jack entered the GOLD104.3 studios together for the first time by running through an AFL-style banner.

The Christian O’Connell Breakfast Show will launch next Monday, 4 June.
