The Community Media Training Organisation (CMTO) is running its very first online pathways workshop, an Introduction to Presentation, with ABC Brisbane and the Gold Coast‘s Spencer Howson the trainer.
Participants learn presentation skills in an online and interactive environment with numbers for the class limited to ensure time for discussions with Howson.

- Reviewing your own performance
- Vocal warm-ups
- Using Microphones
- Presentation style – engaging with listeners and present information on air in a conversational and natural way
Howson’s career began at 4RPH more than three decades ago, volunteering, then working part-time while studying studying journalism at QUT. He later became Board President when the station rebranded as Reading Radio and purchased the premises it had been broadcasting from.
In between Howson spent 26 years at the ABC, including 15 hosting the top rating 612 ABC Brisbane Breakfast show. Alongside breakfast he was also Program Quality Advisor, assisting in the development ABC radio presenters and producers across Australia.
From 2021-2023 Howson hosted Weekends on 4BC and has just spent the past three months filling in hosting the Saturday Breakfast Show on ABC Gold Coast.
Howson recently completed a Master of Arts, studying attitudes towards female radio presenters and has just commenced his PhD at Griffith University, researching the value of local radio to audiences, particularly in regional Australia.
