Comedian Matt Okine joins triple j breakfast

triple j has announced today that comedian Matt Okine is replacing Tom Ballard as the new presenter of triple j breakfast.

Matt joins Alex Dyson in the early morning slot for plenty of laughs, lots of new music and weekly Like A Versions, in a the new Matt and Alex breakfast.

As a comedian, Matt regularly tours the festival circuit locally and internationally, including the Montreal “Just For Laughs” Comedy Festival, Homebake, Falls Festival and Reading, as well as supporting the likes of Aziz Ansari. He was recently nominated for the prestigious Best Newcomer at Edinburgh Fringe, earlier in 2013 he won Best Of The Fest at Sydney Comedy Festival and in 2012 took out Best Newcomer at Melbourne International Comedy Festival for his show Being Black n Chicken n Shit, which he went on to perform in London and later became the basis for his debut DVD.

Matt has been on triple j before, when earlier this year he was a crowd favourite at triple j’s Good Az Friday. He also currently hosts Thursday FC on SBS2 – a weekly A League program.

Listeners can come along and meet Matt at The Metro in Sydney on Fri 13 Dec, as he does stand-up comedy at Tom Ballard’s farewell. It will be a huge last show for Tom & Alex, before the new Brekkie team begin on Mon 13 Jan.

triple j are aso sending out a huge thank you and farewell to Hack presenter Sophie McNeill, who won’t be returning after her maternity leave. Tom Tilley will remain as host of Hack in the new year.
