Hot damn....looks like I was right a few weeks ago when I said they were becoming an FM-2CH. This listener is now going back to Triple M as I need to stay awake at work.
Just god awful. They became less frequently listened to by me when they kept playing we built this city by starship. I turned on to them the other day and heard killing me softly with his song. After that I knew what they were becoming. And from that moment were deleted from all my presets.
Classic rock was fantastic. But like Vega they gave it absolutely no time to build. Hopefully this thing will be as disastrous as all their other ventures. And they might try classic rock again
And I don't suppose it is a coincidence that like channel 10 both stations have gone down the drain since Lachlan Murdoch took over. How is that channel 10 breakfast program going? As well as smooth will I bet
Actually, saying that the previous brand was “set up as placeholder, while the long term strategy was being developed is a pretty ridiculous statement anyway. As if you'd spend all that time and money putting in a format as a 'temporary measure'. Obviously they tried it, decided it didn't work, then had another go. "Hmm, kind of worked for MIX years ago ... lets try that." Probably 'planned' over drinks at the pub! The whole thing is so annoying because it really has been a wasted opportunity all along. And these so called radio professionals just have no idea. What a joke. And not a very good one!
"Smooth" was the station I 'created' for my Assessment in the 2010 AFTRS Programming Course! I want commissions for intellectual property!!! :-p
Another great quote: "We are comfortable at where Nova is sitting at the moment, and with a stable Nova it has given us the opportunity to relaunch these two stations." Yeah, thank goodness DMG has at least this money coming in.
"There is no contemporary FM easy listening station in Sydney or Melbourne, a gap which Smooth will fill.” Yep, we've all been waiting for that. If you really want people to wind down/drop off/zone out just go Ambient. That'd be new.
Ok well can't wait for the next format ... once they decide this is just dead air too. Oh wait, yes I can.
Really guys, its just not that hard. Oh wait, apparently it is. Such a waste.
Richard - I hope they do go back to the Classic Rock format as I have just finished programming 2700 songs for a local station I am based at. I'll wager a bet that I can do what DMG music director's can't - musically program a classic rock station where no song is repeated for at least 6 days. Working on an average 13 songs per hour, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week that comes to 2184 songs. Easy as. Come on DMG - try & beat that!!!!
