Corey’s ‘groundbreaking’ Olympic stadium stunt gets thumbs up from Brisbane’s Lord Mayor

This morning on KIIS 97.3’s Robin, Kip & Corey Oates, Corey took a cheeky stand after reports surfaced that the new infrastructure boss for the Brisbane 2032 Olympics was keen to get things moving at Victoria Park – despite no ground having been broken yet.

In disbelief that work still hadn’t yet started, Corey grabbed a shovel and headed to the site himself to “officially” break ground.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner joined the show shortly after, and while the team expected a stern word or two, he instead praised the effort and even invited the boys to get their excavator licences and join in once the real digging begins.

“Your team is expecting me to be upset with you. Like, you know, you’ve taken away my job to turn a good sod. I love a good sod turning. But you know what? I’m not even mad. I feel the frustration, too. Let’s get it started!”

Robin & Kip now with Corey Oates can be heard from 5.30am on KIIS 97.3 in Brisbane, or listen on the free iHeart App.
