Cruise on the air in Adelaide

Adelaide’s newest Radio Station, Cruise went to air at 6am this morning at 1323 on the AM band.

Artists aired in the first hour on air included:
Neil Sedaka,
Beach Boys,
Bobby Darrin,
Barry Manilow,
Carole King,
Celine Dion,
Elvis and
Dionne Warwick.

PD and breakfast presenter Peter Burghum has told radioinfo:

“It will be a mix of familiar songs to baby boomers, but also Cruise knows their listeners are a discerning lot and like new contemporary artists as well like Michael Buble and Nora Jones.”

Cruise1323 will replace the former 5DN and failed sports station SEN. It is owned by ARN, which decided to retain the station after the unsuccessful leasing venture to SEN. The station has been simulcasting ARN’s other Adelaide station Mix 102.3 since SEN closed down.

ARN General Manager Steve Rowe says:

“Cruise 1323 will deliver a music format targeted at the ‘Baby Boomers’ and beyond. It will be a very focused music station playing the great songs from great artists. Peter has a lot of experience with this format. He was 17 years at 2CH Sydney and at Radio ‘I’ in Auckland which was huge in the 80’s.”

Rowe says the response by people in general and from local businesses has been enthusiastic.

“We’ve had a lot of questions and people are really interested. This is a unique radio format and I am confident that it is going to be an enjoyable listening experience.”
