DAB still trails analogue in the UK: Sony survey

In a poll at last night’s 25th anniversary Sony Radio Academy Awards, DAB digital radio has come off second best.

When radio professionals were faced with a choice of listening to programming on DAB or a plain old analogue set, 82% chose the analogue option.

For those who do listen to some kind of digitally delivered programming, 40% say they listen through the Internet as it offers the option of many stations outside the listening area.

In a sobering admission, the industry had to report that listening to digital stations is more popular on a TV set than through a DAB digital radios; 42% of those polled listened through Freeview or Sky, whilst just 36% listened on a dedicated DAB radio.
