This morning, Katie Lamb and 92.9 Triple M Perth General Manager Rob Iannazzo played a cruel April Fool’s Day prank on Katie’s Breakfast co-host Xavier Ellis.
They made him believe that, by charging his Tesla in the 92.9 Triple M Perth car park, he had somehow damaged the radio station’s back-up generator, causing $37,000 in damages.
The prank was elaborate, with a fake all-staff email altering Xav & Katie to the damaged generator, and a phone call from the unimpressed GM.
Xavier even went downstairs during a break to unplug his car.
Towards the end of the program, having sweated through most of it, Xav eventually offered this apology:
“I do feel horrible. I don’t have $37,000 just sitting there to pay … I can get it … but I do apologise. I know you don’t need to deal with this stuff on a morning, and I’m going to cry, but that’s okay.”
Rob and Katie then revealed the hoax to their very relieved colleague.
Listen to 92.9 Triple M Breakfast with Xav & Katie from 6-9am each weekday, also on LiSTNR.
