Denis Walter moves to nights at 3AW

In another dramatic move at MacRadio, veteran afternoons host Denis Walter will be vacating his Afternoon shift for Nights in 2020.

John Stanley, who’d been til now heard on nights will cease to be networked into Melbourne from Sydney.

Walter, who’s been in the Afternoon slot since 2008 says he’s delighted with the move, “I’m also looking forward to no morning peak-hour traffic.” He quipped that sometimes the commute takes longer than his program.

Stephen Beers, 3AW Station Manager, says that the move is designed to return a more local flavour to 3AW. “Today’s announcement that his (Denis Walter’s) famous voice will be broadcast on 3AW Nights reinforces our commitment to Melbourne as we continue to provide a strong local presence across all parts of the day.”

This announcement would preclude networking Steve Price’s Afternoon show from 2GB, an idea that has long been mooted since he took the reins from Chris Smith.

Mr Beers said that a new Melbourne-based host for 3AW Afternoons will be announced in the coming weeks.

Denis Walter is an OAM recipient for services to the performing arts and broadcast media and has been an integral part of the Australian entertainment industry throughout a singing career lasting over 40 years.

For Victorians he is an essential part of Christmas as a performer at Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight, where he has appeared for more than half of his life.
