Donuts for Dollars boost funding for community station

It’s not easy being a community station. Funding is always an issue.

A case in point is Perth’s RTRFM 92.1, a not-for-profit independent radio station that survives only through the support of listeners by way of subscriptions and donations.

Today the station kicks off its annual Radiothon to convince listeners to dig deep and fork out some hard earned to keep it going another year. Given it celebrated 41 years since in inception last April, listeners must value it immensely.

The money raised from the annual Radiothon makes up more than a third of RTRFM’s operating income and enables them to continue producing high-quality music and talks programming year-round.

It requires some innovative marketing to prise open listener purses each year.

For this year’s Radiothon, RTRFM’s presenters, volunteers and staff are calling on their listeners and supporters to CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE

The “adventure” begins in Breakfast Friday and runs through to lunchtime on Sunday, August 19.

There’s a Radiothon Opening Party on Saturday at the trendy Badlands Bar, featuring a bunch of local bands.

So, where do the donuts for dollars promised by our headline fit in? Well, throughout the Radiothon, Pertians can buy a special Radiothon Donut from all Mary Street Bakery outlets, with $1 from each donut donated back to RTRFM. Plus, there’s special Radiothon blend of Twin Peak Coffee hitting a number of venues around Perth.

Further information on Radiothon 2018, including the list of prizes and information on how to volunteer, is available via rtrfm.com.au/chooseyourownadventure
