Fairfax to Macquarie Radio sale speculation back in the news as battleground moves to Perth

According to Perth Now’s sources a heated all-staff meeting fronted by Sydney-based Fairfax Radio chief executive Adam Lang turned into a “a massive all-staff showdown.”

The charge was led by 6PR breakfast host Steve Mills who, Perth Now says, challenged Mr Lang to resign if the station’s ageing building and equipment wasn’t promptly attended to, as has been repeatedly promised in recent years.

Mr Lang is said to have fired back, telling Mills that he may be sacked before then.

The apparent tensions between staff and management at Fairfax Radio’s Perth outpost is said to be fuelled in part by a recent report that former 6PR and 96FM general manager, Declan Kelly was said to be ready to purchase 96FM in a joint venture with Macquarie Radio Network, which has further fuelled speculation that the 2GB owners are launching another tilt at the whole network.

When asked to comment by radioinfo, Mr Lang simply replied, Our response to the questions was included in the article and we have no further comment.” The response Mr Lang refers to is, Someone has a killer imagination.”
