FIFA World Cup final takes over radio

A couple of radio stations went above and beyond to watch the FIFA World Cup final this morning.

Nath & Emma at Tumbalong Park

2DayFM Breakfast’s Nath & Emma broadcast live from the official FIFA World Cup Fan Zone at Sydney’s Tumbalong Park. They were the only Sydney breakfast show broadcasting live from the heart of the action and were up extra early as the action kicked off at 5am.

Thousands of fans were there, many of whom had camped out overnight. Following a main stage introduction, Nath & Emma then broadcast live from the middle of the crowd, positioned directly in front of the giant screens to call every heart-stopping kick, save, red card and the extra time goal that sealed the deal for Spain.

Away from the pitch, Emma Chow kept listeners across the star-stuffed halftime show featuring performances from Justin Bieber, Shakira, Post Malone, BTS and Madonna as well as celebrity sightings of Beyonce and Jay-Z, Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner, Tom Cruise and the Beckham family.

Nath & Emma mingled with supporters and fans, went with the hype and led chants. Both will be very hoarse tomorrow.

Meanwhile, in Adelaide, an unexpected rivalry was ceased when KIIS 1023‘s Ben & Liam got a half hour off this morning (and their listeners new hosts) to watch the game in peace.

It all began when Ben & Liam jokingly launched a “cease and desist” campaign against Life FM breakfast team of Bec & Liam, on the basis that Adelaide wasn’t equipped to deal with two shows with such similar names.

Bec was brought into KIIS last Friday, resisting every suggestion from the boys of new name alternatives. A truce was reached, and somehow Bec & Liam ended up agreeing to host the first half hour of KIIS Breakfast so that Ben & Liam could watch the final.

The only problem? Bec & Liam may have done such a good job that Ben & Liam might be the ones usurped!

Ben, Bec, Liam and Liam are pictured below.
