Free FM and GLOW Radio launch to lend support to local music

Two new digital radio stations have commenced, devoted to supporting Australian and New Zealand music.

GLOW RADIO commenced its 24/7 digital radio station on March 4, broadcasting ad-free and independently curated. The station will spotlight women artists aged 35 plus, gender-diverse and First Nations talent with the further aim of amplifying underrepresented voices and celebrating the full depth and diversity of homegrown music.

GLOW STORIES launched alongside the radio station featuring artist led conversations. Australian and New Zealand women artists join for intimate, peer-to-peer chats. The 8 episode series began with Missy Higgins & Gordi, which you can watch above.

“GLOW RADIO is more than just a station; it’s a movement. We’re creating a platform where Australia and New Zealand’s most loved artists and exciting emerging talent can finally be heard side by side, free from commercial constraints. It’s time to put the spotlight back where it belongs, on the music,” said GLOW Project Manager Grant Gillies.

“We created GLOW RADIO because too many incredible Australia and New Zealand’s voices weren’t being heard. This is a platform that celebrates talent without bias, giving women, First Nations, and gender-diverse artists the recognition and exposure they deserve. It’s about fairness, visibility, and putting the music and the artists first,” said Milly Petriella OAM.

Also launching at the end of April is the digital-first independent radio platform Free FM, part of the 2BB Creative Pty Ltd ecosystem and developed to prioritise Australian music and artist support within a commercially disciplined format across smart devices to allow for growth beyond traditional geographic limitations.

Founder Daniel Thomas’s background spans more than two decades in commercial broadcasting, programming strategy and media operations. He said:

“Digital infrastructure allows us to build a station intentionally, without legacy constraints.”

Free FM too will provide greater national and regional representation than typically heard within high-rotation commercial frameworks. It commences streaming from April 30 at freefm.com.au.
