Fyona Smith expands her role at AFTRS

AFTRS Head of Radio, Fyona Smith, has expanded her role and will now lead the Radio and Podcast team following the departure of Lisa Sweeney.

Lisa has left to pursue a role with Service NSW (see our previous report).

Newly appointed Director of Curriculum and Student Registrar, Nell Greenwood says “Fyona is a brilliant teacher. She has extensive industry connections and is a passionate advocate for Radio across the school.”

Fyona set up the AFTRS Audio Boom channel to showcase student work as well as collaborations across the industry, most recently with iHeart Radio.

She is also working to integrate podcasting across the Screen Awards courses.

As an integral member of the Radio and Podcast team for six years and Head of Radio for two, Fyona says “It’s an exciting time for radio and podcasting and content creation. I look forward to ensuring the R in AFTRS continues great success and employment outcomes with a fantastic team behind me”.

Prior to commencing at AFTRS, Fyona produced and presented SCA’s national top-rated School of Rock radio show, hosted Southern Cross Television’s Australian music TV show School of Rock Oz Made and held the position of Network Music Director for Triple M Localworks, produced and presented award-winning local and national shows and is a multi-Australian Commercial Radio Award winner.

As part of the changes at AFTRS, the Radio Faculty is currently advertising for a lecturer. See details on our Jobs Page.
