Gary Shannon lobs at 6iX

If anyone knows “What’s on in Perth” it’s the western city’s favourite radio son.

A Perth boy through and through, Gary Shannon began his radio career at 6KY in 1972 as a production assistant. It would be another 19 years before the station, now Mix 94.5 converted to the FM band. After his first announcing job at 6NA arrogin spent much of his on-air career at 92.9FM (previously PMFM) before being poached by 96fm from which he was famously sacked in 2010 only to be reinstated two years later.

From this week he’ll be hosting a new series of regular segments appropriately called “What’s on in Perth” along with other projects in the near future on 6iX.

Program Director Stuart Endersby says “Gary is a great friend, fellow Dockers supporter and without doubt a legend of Perth radio. It’s great that he will now back on Perth radio.”

General Manager Evan Broadway says “The pace that 6iX is moving this year is incredible. Our clients are loving our strategic approach to creating great radio for our target audience. Having a talent like Gary now officially joining the team is a big win for 6iX and his loyal Perth fan base – who want him back on Perth radio. Not to mention our clients.”
