Veteran journalist Geoff Field is leaving his position of News Director at 2SER-FM following a restructure at the station.
Several positions, including that of full-time News Director, have been made redundant.
Commenting on his role as educator and mentor, Geoff has told radioinfo: “it’s been a privilege to teach so many talented students, not to mention being part of a radio station with such an important legacy in Sydney.”
Since joining 2SER-FM in 2017 Geoff has trained hundreds of journalism students from UTS and Macquarie University, with 70 of them have going on to jobs in the media.
Two of his students (Zac de Silva and Dona Sirimanne) have won the prestigious Brian White Scholarship in successive years, not to mention numerous others who were nominated as finalists.
Wishing everyone at 2SER-FM well, Geoff says he is finally looking forward to sleeping-in, after working in breakfast radio for more than 25-years.
In his 40 year radio news career Geoff Field pioneered new ground by coming out on air as gay and marrying his partner Jason in a public ceremony long before gay marriage was legal. Look back at our coverage of Geoff’s career on 2Day FM, 2SM and more recently 2SER here.
