After News Limited revealed details of an guerilla marketing billboard shone onto the ABC Building, ABC Adelaide listeners have had a little fun at Wollies’ expense.
The ABC does not allow commercial advertising on its airwaves and it’s non-commercial listeners do not easily tolerate creeping commercialism, so some were not happy to hear that the ABC Adelaide headquarters had been defaced by a Woolworths ‘Show Stoppers Special’ outdoor ad projected onto the building last weekend.
One listener suggested to ABC891 breakfast presenter Matt Abraham on twitter that the breakfast show could adopt a new slogan.
It’s not entirely a laughing matter.
ABC lawyers have sent a legal letter to Wollies asking the company to cease and desist using the building for guerilla marketing, and a local council spokesperson told News Limited that no development approval had been sought for the outdoor ad.
This was the image that was photographed by a passer-by and sent to the Adelaide Advertiser. It was being shone from the back of a van.
This is a laugh though. Does anyone really care?? Companies use advertising to sell products - wooo controversy! I think the ABC Adelaide should say 'thank you' to Woollies for giving them the opportunity to get themselves some free press! Lighten up ABC. Seriously.
