Hadley and Richard Palmer part friends

Macquarie Media’s head of digital Richard Palmer is leaving 2GB on good terms with his colleagues, especially Ray Hadley.

Palmer will take up a position with Triton Digital as Director of APAC Market Development. He begins tomorrow.

radioinfo readers may remember the well publicised spat in 2013 when Ray Hadley gave Palmer a tongue lashing about uploading content on the station’s website.

Palmer sued Hadley for ‘bullying and unlawful imprisonment’ but the case was settled out of court.

It seems like all’s well now between the two, with Palmer sending a note about leaving to Hadley who read it out on air today:

We’re losing one of our key members of staff today, Richard Palmer…

He’s dropped me a note [which says]

“The day has come to move on.. it wasn’t an easy decision to leave such an exciting and challenging business…

“In the last five years Ray I don’t think there would be too many people who’ve been through what we’ve been through and come out the other side to where we are today.”

I think you’re right Richard, I think you’re right, it’s most gracious of you to send this note.

He’s been a very valuable member of our team overall.

He says, “You’re an exceptional broadcaster… your success is evident.”

Well Richard, more that you would ever know I appreciate that note from you and I join with everyone here in wishing you every success in the future. I’m sorry you’re leaving… Good luck to you Dicko…

Richard Palmer was instrumental in revamping the 2GB and 2CH radio websites and played a part in the transition of IT services when the former Fairfax radio stations merged with Macquarie Media. He also worked on introducing new services such as the network’s audio ad platform, podcasts and app services.
