Hinch jailed for contempt of court

Derryn Hinch has been arrested after declaring he will not pay his $100000 contempt of court fine. He will be sent to jail.

Hinch was convicted of contempt of court for commenting on a pedophile case on his blog. His fine was due to be paid this week.

When it was not paid, Hinch was arrested by police this afternoon.

Hinch explained why he would not pay the fine on his blog.

Three words convinced me to go to jail for 50 days rather than pay an exorbitant and grossly unfair $100,000 fine for contempt of court.

They disgusted me the more times I typed them in my blog: ‘convicted paedophile ex-magistrate’.

His PA posted the news on his facebook page:

Hinch spoke to Neil Mitchell’s this morning about his intention not to pay the fine and Mitchell told him he was “foolish” and “grandstanding.”
