The Gold Coast’s 1029 Hot Tomato is parting ways with its Interactive Promo Trailer and has put it up for sale on Gumtree.
Executive Chairman Hans Torv knows full well that the collectors’ market for used radio promo trailers is limited. Nonetheless he’s confident that there’s a small but exclusive potential market for it.
While most radio stations have had cars, vans, utes under different names and catch phrases, Hot Tomato, says Mr Torv, “has a history of unusual promotional vehicles going back to the fabulous fire engine, our hot air balloon and the five hundred square metre flying flag.”
Doing the most distance and appearances though would be the big black gull wing trailer. Usually accompanied by king of the 1029ers Trevor Butler, among others.
Mr Torv explains, “We bought it several years ago from a promotions company who had a handful of them. It’s ideally suited for expos and events. We loaded it up with a new axle earlier this year and it comes with a QLD roadworthy certificate.”
Although the trailer is listed on Gumtree for $5,500, Mr Torv says he will consider discounting the price for community radio but added, “if Nick Scott calls we will charge a buyer’s premium. He will want to contra it.”
