Nova 100’s Dave Hughes was absent from his Hughesy & Kate breakfast show this morning as his wife Holly was having their third child.

The baby girl was born this morning at 5.45am weighing exactly 8 pounds and has been named Tess Clementine Hughes.

She joins big brother Rafferty (born April 2009) and sister Sadie (born April 2011).

Hughesy spoke to Kate and Tommy this morning.

“She is very cute no doubt about it, absolutely no doubt about it. She is gorgeous and we are all very happy here at the hospital. Can I recommend anyone who wants their wife to go into a labour have a hot curry, we had a hot curry last night and it brought on labour.”

Asked if he did this on purpose, Hughesy said:

“We did, Holly said I want to have this baby and ordered a really hot curry. The curry very nearly killed me. At 10.30am last night the dam wall broke.” 

Kate Langbroek was joined by Tommy Little on air this morning. Although Hughesy had texted their EP Sacha French at 10.30pm last night when Holly went into labour, she didn’t get the message due to his problematic iphone.

Sacha only found out at 4.30am this morning that Hughesy would not be in. When Tommy failed to answer his phone, producer Nick Daly went to his house to wake him up and drive him into the Nova studios.

Hughesy is planning on returning this Thursday morning.
